Colby Thomas has performed as an actress and singer, both in the US and in Europe. She has appeared several times in the Oneonta area over the past year and half, including as soprano soloist in Samueal Barber’s KNOXVILLE:  SUMMER OF 1915, Carl Orff’s CARMINA BURANA with the Catskill Choral Society, and last May at the Baseball Hall of Fame in the role of Lilly in COOPERSTOWN, an original opera by composer Sasha Matson.

In 1991 Ms. Thomas toured Western Europe in a production of OKLAHOMA!, and while there, auditioned and won the role of Christine Daae in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Hamburg production of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA.  She remained in Germany for the following ten years and starred in over eighteen hundred performances of the popular musical, as well as making many TV, radio and concert appearances, singing repertoire from Mozart to Gershwin.  Ms. Thomas has had the good fortune to work with such luminaries in musical theater as Hal Prince, David Caddick, Jamie Hammerstein, Jonathan Tunick and Terrence Mann.  Her regional and off-Broadway credits include Luisa in THE FANTASTIKS  Maria in WEST SIDE STORY, Mabel in THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE, Anne in A LITTLENIGHT MUSICand Princess Tuptim in the national tour of THE KING AND I, starring Stacy Keach and MaryBeth Peil.  Her non-musical credits include Molly in THE MOUSETRAP, Puck in A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM and Olivia in TWELFTH NIGHT, with the Riverside Shakespeare Company, and Lydia in THE EXQUISITE DIMENSIONS OF LYDIA for Playwrights Horizons ‘One Act Play Festival.’

Ms. Thomas has, most happily, returned to her alma mater at SUNY Oneonta and joined the faculty of the Music department, where she teaches voice, History of the American Musical, and directs the opera program.
